Albina Burashnikova, Regional Representative, TEA (Teaching Excellence Award) alumna introduced the guest and announced to the topic of the workshop saying that the needs of this very special student population are unique and that accommodating them can be very challenging.
Adria Winfield started the workshop focusing on some factors to take into consideration while teaching students from 5 to 10 years old. After a short brainstorming Adria explained the activities which can encourage meaningful language use, real communication appropriate to young learners and their learning context. While participating in the activities the teachers were singing, writing animal haiku, taking interviews, telling simple stories, writing cinquains and learning global celebrations.
The teachers were also offered the review of Forum, 4, 2007 and each of them got a copy of the journal. By the end of the workshop the participants shared teaching approaches and ideas they use to make the most of each lesson.
Though all the teachers have their own ways of engaging their young learners in the learning process the workshop gave them an opportunity to learn about new activities and games to motivate students, and give the children a chance to get real enjoyment from learning process.
