Dashoguz American Corner
The Dashoguz American Corner was opened in November 2002. Life is always busy here with a large number of visitors attending classes and presentations, as well as using the library, the computer lab, and the educational advising center.

The Regional Representative, Alumni Coordinator, and Peace Corps Volunteer all work hard to provide current and reliable information about the United States to the general public through the library, computer lab, advising center, and daily activities schedule.

Teacher’s workshops, debate clubs, American history classes, girls clubs, pen pal clubs, and cross cultural classes are only some of the activities taught here for the benefit of the community. By visiting the American Corner, young people in Dashoguz have an opportunity to be active in extracurricular activities and to be kept informed of educational and other opportunities. Outstanding teachers of English and other professionals have an opportunity to develop their professional skills. All activities are free and open to the general public.

The number of library users continues to grow, as visitors are able to take advantage of the extensive collection, which includes books and other materials about English grammar, U.S. history and culture, educational guides, health manuals, and reference materials (dictionaries, encyclopedias, and world almanacs).

American Corner staff and alumni of the FLEX and TEA exchange programs conduct presentations about educational opportunities, community service events, and seminars at local schools in the Dashoguz and in other etraps in the Dashoguz velayat. The Dashoguz American Corners partners with the recently-opened Resource Center for the Society of the Blind and Deaf of Dashoguz.

Arzigul Kochkarova
Regional Representative
Dashoguz American Corner

Arzigul is an alumna of the US Government-sponsored and American Councils administered Junior Faculty Development Program. While in the United States in 2006, Arzigul was a visiting faculty member at the University of Wyoming in Laramie, Wyoming. Arzigul has worked at the Dashoguz American Corner since August 2007.

“I am proud of the experience that I gained in the US during my participation in the Junior Faculty Development Program, which is extremely helpful in my work now,” says Kochkarova. “Through my work, I am able to communicate and collaborate with lots of people, gain essential skills from presenting and advertising academic exchange programs, and share my experience from the University of Wyoming.”

“Education is the key to a new world,” she adds. “One must take advantage of any opportunity to obtain education, search for scholarships, or participate in exchange programs. It is a chance to see another part of the world, meet new people, and become more independent and confident.”

Alumni Assistant
Dashoguz American Corner

Enahan is an alumna of the Future Leaders Exchange Program (FLEX). She lived in Chesire, Massachusetts, and studied at an American High school during the 2005-2006 school year.

"I had the best experience of my life while I was in the United States. I learned a lot in one year in the USA. I really want to share my experiences with everyone, and let them know about opportunities abroad. Working at the American Corner gives me an excellent chance to do so, in addition to teaching English. My work as the Alumni Assistant is the first step in the next chapter of my life. The American Corner is really a great place to work, and the people with whom I work provide great support to me. I also enjoy interacting on a daily basis with students and visitors."
