TESOL 2008 PARTICIPANT CONDUCTED A WORKSHOP FOR TEACHERS OF LEBAP REGION
NewsEnglish teacher of Lepap regional school Jemal Saypullayeva was chosen to participate in the 42nd annual TESOL conference held in New York City in April 2008. By attending TESOL Convention, Saypullayeva received a wonderful opportunity to explore and observe a variety of teaching techniques, interactive learning configurations, and differentiated assessment techniques.
As an educator she felt it was her duty to share the gained experience with her colleagues. On the 17th of May Saypullayeva conducted a workshop for English teachers of Lebap region at school No. 35, where they learned new ways of teaching English based on grammar, vocabulary, speaking, reading, pronunciation and listening.
During this workshop teachers learned new methodology in English language teaching. They discussed new interactive methods.
One of the participants of the workshop English Teacher Ergeshova Inabat said: “The workshop on interactive methods Jemal hold for English Teachers was very helpful for all of us. Personally as an English teacher I liked the theatre games, where students improve their speaking skills, because these activities help to enhance and improve student’s oral and written skills. Moreover, it helps teachers to build a better English speaking community”.
CONTINUING THE TRADITION OF HAVING REGIONAL DEBATE TOURNAMENT
NewsOn May 21, FLEX alumni Irina Grigoryans’07 and Bahar Nokerova’07 conducted The Second Regional Debate Tournament for students of ninth and tenth grades from different schools of Mary region. Teams from GRES, Murgap and Mary participated in the debate. The main goal of the event was to encourage young generation to brainstorm on global issues as well as on topics, that are currently being discussed between urban and rural areas. Participants also had a chance to learn how to be professional: be patient, listen to the opponent, respect each other and work in the team.
At the beginning of the event the participants and judges (Serdar Mommadov, FLEX’06, Lyubov Lakomova, FLEX’06 and Sheker Muradova, BFTF’06) were introduced with the rules and the structure of the debate. The debates were on the following topics: “Should we have a curfew”, “Internet should replace books”, “Freedom of speech is harmful”. At the end of the event all participants were awarded with the certificates and prizes for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd places.
One of the participants, Yusup Artykuliev said: “I was happy to be a part of Mary team. I gained new information about different aspects. I learned how to be patient and respectful to the other teams. I met new people from all over Mary Region and established friendship relationship with them.”
This event was important as students had an opportunity to gain, develop and improve critical thinking, public speaking and debate skills.
ALIUMNI WORKING ON DASHOGUZ AMERICAN CORNER NEWSLETTER
NewsOn May 22, Alumni Assistant Enahan Shamuratova organized a meeting for the editors of Dashoguz newsletter. Two alumni and 3 Dashoguz American Corner Volunteers participated in the meeting. The main goal of this gathering was to discuss the spring edition of the newsletter. First, Shamuratova talked about the newsletter in general. Then the attendees talked about changing the title of the newsletter. Furthermore, alumni and the participants reviewed previous events held at the Dashoguz American Corner. The participants decided on the topics of the articles they want to write about.
FLEX ALUMNI ORGANIZE MOVIE NIGHT FOR THE ACCESS GROUP
On May 8, FLEX Alumni Dovran Balyshov’07, Leyla Kerimova’07, Fatima Kubatayeva’07 and Farhad Yagmurov’04 conducted a Movie Night at the American Corner in Turkmenabat. This event was attended by 8 students from the ACCESS group. New American Disney’s movie “Enchanted” was shown to the students. Several times the movie was stopped in order to discuss some episodes with students, which helped them understand movie better.
Movie Club is conducted to increase students’ vocabulary and to have an opportunity to practice their English with FLEX Alumni. Students enjoyed the movie.
One of the ACCESS group student Reimova Nargiza said: “I love movies about princesses and especially it is better to watch a movie in original without translation, it helps understand English better. FLEX Alumni helped us learn new words and I also got to speak English while discussing the movie.”
