MARY AMERICAN CORNER CELEBRATES INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY
March 7 three FLEX alumni- Merjen Agayeva’07, Lusina Mkrtchyan’07 and Bahar Nokerova, Sheker Muradova’06 BFTF alumna along with 15 participants of Make a Difference Club organized Women’s Day celebration for 30 American Corner visitors.
In the beginning of the event, Bahar Nokerova’07 along with Kerim Berdymuhamedov, a member of the Make a Difference Club conducted a PowerPoint presentation on the Top Ten Women of the Mary Region who are/were famous for their contribution to the Turkmen art, cinematography, journalism and poetry. The attendees had an opportunity to learn more about the famous ladies of the Mary region, about their backgrounds and what they are famous for.
Then Lusina Mkrtchyan’07, Sheker Muradova BFTF’06 along with three American Corner volunteers led an activity called “The Princess of the Mary American Corner”. The aim of this activity was to find the princess of the American Corner among girls through competitions on creativity, solving problems and household issues.
The following up activity was called “The best compliment maker”. All the boys had to say compliments to the Princess of the American Corner. It was an interesting practice of their English language and public speaking skills.
By the end of the event Lusine Mkrtchyan FLEX’07 led quiz on “All about Women”. The questions were mainly about women’s issues, powerful women and their contribution to the mankind.
One of the participants, Kumush Rejepova said: “This celebration was very useful, and I enjoyed participating in the competition. I gained new information about the women from my region and all over the world and I realized that women can really make changes in the society”. The participants enjoyed celebrating International Women’s Day. They gained information about famous ladies of their own region their contribution to the community, had a chance to participate in activities where they showed their creative and public speaking skills.
