| Regional Debate Tournament |
 FLEX alumni Memed Habibov, Kerim Berdiyev, Leyla Ovezova, Yusup Artykkuliyev, Ferangiz Bagirov conducted the Third Regional Debate Tournament at Mary American Corner. Teams from Mary province - Bairamaly, Yoloten and two teams from Mary city announced their decision to participate in the Tournament. The Tournament was called to help the local youth develop public speaking, debating, critical thinking, English language skills as well as working in teams. Another goal of hosting a Regional Debate Tournament was to include students living in villages and rural areas into American Corner’s life, and to encourage a much needed dialogue between rural and urban students. During the activity teams discussed such topics as “Breakfast is most important meal of the day”, “Studying grammar is more important than practicing conversation skill” and etc. Eventually, only two teams, Mary 1 and Yoloten, were left for final debate. The final debate gave the victory to the Mary 1 team.

FLEX’10 alumna Leila Ovezova organized “Health Club” at Mary American Corner. The main purpose of the club was to introduce the participants with “healthy food” and help them to improve their communication skills and their vocabulary in health topic. 20 volunteers and visitors of American Corner took part at the club. During the club the facilitator played different interactive games and used power point presentation about “Fast Food”. As a homework assignment each participant has to make a short speech the next class, and the topic for the next session is “The Vitamins and why it is important in our nutrition”.
On July 3rd, American corner in Turkmenabat, FLEX alumni prepared the presentation about Independence Day of the USA including all facts and information concerning Declaration of Independence, how American people struggled for it and who was the initiator of this idea. At the beginning Lachyn Italmazova ’09 showed a PowerPoint presentation about 4th of July talking mainly about its history. She talked about the first thirteen states and about Continental Congress. Then Nazar Nazarov ’10 and Tatyana Malyhina ’10 talked about the holiday itself and what people do on that event. They showed the pictures of the largest parades and fireworks on the 4th of July as in New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles and in what way American people decorate their houses. During the presentation alumni ’10 showed posters with pictures of their American experience and each of them talked about his/her own state and cultural year. Tatyana Malyhina ’10 showed a slide show, thus ACT visitors could see another world with different traditions and values.
